Where to Buy Fresh Seafood in Ladysmith

Many people visit our harbour looking to buy fresh seafood directly off the boats.

Several of the commercial fishing vessels that moor at our facility offer various seafood products for sale throughout the year. Although it may be difficult to buy fresh seafood you can find frozen, canned or vacuum sealed seafood products.

During the spring commercial prawn season we have at least one boat that sells fresh prawns nearly every afternoon. You just need to know when he gets in from fishing each day. Crabs are more difficult to find but with a little searching it's possible to get a feed of fresh crabs.

During the fall some of our gillnet fleet unloads their fish at our facility whenever there's an opening on the Fraser River. This is a good time to buy fresh sockeye which is usually only a day old and on ice when delivered. The fall is also the time to get your tuna for canning. We have a few boats that fish for tuna and it's best to get on a waiting list if planning on doing some canning. With new restrictions on commercial tuna fishing it may be a difficult find in the future.
